10 reasons 2012 didn't suck that much

This year has been really hard for me, definitely not my best but still amazing... Here are some of the reasons 2012 didn't suck that much.

  1. This was tough because #2 was almost #1, but I have to say that getting my MFA was the best thing that happened this year. My dad would kill me if it wasn't.
  2. The Pulp concert in Mexico City with some of my most favorite people in the whole world. You know who you are.
  3. To see my name published on a printed magazine was beyond exciting/cool/unreal.
  4. Finally having (semi) real jobs that I love, love, love.
  5. My trip to NYC with my parents. Specially getting to see the Chanel, Prada/Schiaparelli and FIT exhibits.
  6. My new Twitter friends like Gina from High on Fashion and BoticaPop. Twitter's weird.
  7. Being able to visit ELLE Mexico. It gave me so much perspective on what I want to do with my life.
  8. Living in the same city with my cousin was both fun and weird. My last six months living in Savannah were something else.
  9. Finding a truly amazing vintage store in Mexico City (with my other cousin).
  10. And in general being (again, a semi) adult with responsibilities and not being able to go on vacation. I know it sounds kind of weird but it means something for me.
And to close this weird year, I got an internship at a magazine and I'll be working in the fashion department! So, I'll keep you posted on how a magazine really works and if it is my true calling. Uneven years have always been my favorite and I'm sure this will be one of those. It has to.

My outrageous, crazy, un-real holiday wishlist!

What kind of fashion fan/shopaholic would I be if I didn't have a wishlist? Don't worry, I'm a good one... This list took a long time to be created and it is REALLY well thought. (It includes creatures, in case you were wondering.)

First of all, if I had to choose just one gift and forget the others: the Charlotte Olympia cat slippers, I am crazy, obsessed and absolutely in love with these shoes. Even if I had them I don't know if I could wear them because I love them sooo much and wouldn't want them to get dirty. The black ones are my favorite pair but I also want the glitter AND the leopard-print-ones... AND, since we're daydreaming I'll take the silk red ones, too.

The Complete Works of Oscar Wilde: what can I say? Ilove his quotes, he's a genius and the book cover is just amazing.

Grace, A Memoir is a memoir written by one of my role models, Grace Coddington the creative mind behind Vogue magazine. A true genius. At BookMarc you can get it signed for only $35. Just saying...

A Céline purse. Do I really need to explain?

My mom and I are just totally in love with this MiuMiu dress. I just adore the colors and the collar, super lady-like and playful at the same time.

Chanel Set of 3 books and/or the Little Black Jacket book... and a Chanel LBJ to go with it.The three volumes include Chanel; Chanel Jewellery; and Chanel Perfume. The Little Black Jacket Book features the same pics I went to see this summer while in New York, as you may recall. Or not. Anyway, a perfect gift for me.

MiuMiu studded suede sneakers... MiuMiu is one of my favorite brands ever and I love this pair of sneakers because they have some glam studs and are totally neutral.

This Tibi Lobster Sweater is just very me, don't you think?

I know the list is quite long (and expensive), I just got really excited. And I know I'm kind of late for Santa, but I don't mind if he hits the sales and gets me my gifts in January. I hope you had an amazing Christmas! I sure did.

Sea Creatures

I've been working, working, working... NONSTOP! That's the reason for my absence in my beloved blog. I kind of tried to relax on a trip to Cancun with my parents and my friend Cecilia but it seems I'm lazy but not the relaxing type. I even had some spa time, delicious, but even then I couldn't. I was writing this post in my mind while getting a hot-stone-massage.

Anyway, I had a great time and got to wear my new turtle swimsuit. You probably already know how much I love creatures on my clothes and this was the ultimate finding. I'm not sure if I look like a little girl or just a crazy-manrepeller-wannabe-grown-woman, but I love, love, love it. Maybe I'm over bikinis. Maybe not.

*Español:
No he podido escribir, lo odio pero he tenido muchísimo trabajo y me he enfermado cientos de veces.

I'm coolhunting with my cat.

Last Saturday I attended a CoolHunting seminar in Mexico City and it was really fun. I have to admit that I don't usually like (OK, I hate) going to new stuff but this was a good idea. The instuctor, Juan Salazar from the trend agency NovenoEFE, had tons of knowledge to share and I met really good and interesting people. It was worth it for learning and networking.

Since it was a CoolHunting thing I decided to wear a cool thing. So I wore my new ASOS cat sweater that I've been longing to wear. Also, I did an experiment with some braids in my hair that turned out really cool.

I love my new cat.

And I can tell he loves me back.

Braids from the side.

From the back.

If you want to learn more about Juan, the seminar, or Cool Hunting in general (and read Spanish), you should go here and here. And I want to thank Ebbani and Ceci, form CoolHunterMx for everything!

My new friend Paulina, the cat and me.

Refreshments by Delirio, a delicious restaurant in Mexico City.

The Queen is Back

Yes, Blair Waldorf is back. And I know she was never gone, but for this season (the last one) of Gossip Girl, the headbands are back. I must confess that the story is far from what i was in the beginning and that it has NOTHING to do with the books (yes, I read them, ALL of them), but it's one of those shows I started watching and I need to follow 'til the end.

Perfection.

What makes it harder for me is f-ing Serena Van Der Woodsen. I can't stand her or Blake Lively. My hate for her goes as back as The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants time. And yes, I watched the two movies.

OK, so this post is turning into a confessional of all the s***y things I watch and read and that's not the point. The point is to talk about Blair Waldorf, her headbands and her amazing style. All the hate I have for Serena/Blake turns into love when Blair enters the screen. Now Blair is head of a fashion empire and Serena some lady who lunches. Perfect. The thing is I really admire Blair's style because she's super classy but yet daring. I wish I could dress like her.

Pretty outfit, headband and boyfriend included.

The most perfect outfit with the most perfect headband and the most perfect Louboutins ever.

But what I can do is wear headbands because after three seasons or so, she's wearing them again. I have to admit I started wearing headbands when the first season of the show aired and I am more than excited to do it again. But this time it's not so much about huge bows but jeweled pieces like the ones shown at Dolce & Gabanna for FW12. Fortunately, I already have my DIY version. Now I just need Dorotha.

The thousand-dollar (literally) sold-out version.

My version, courtesy of a Refinery29 tutorial.

¿Cómo me quedó?

I just wanna wear sweaters, even if I'm sweating

This fall is all about sweaters, I already ordered what I hope will be my favorite sweater for fall and still I keep seeing more and more options. This onsession came from my (twitter) friend Gina and her blog High on Fashion. I just want EVERYTHING she has (maybe I would style it differently, but seriously I WANT EVERYTHING. But this post with the 3.1 Phillip Lim sweater mixed with a baroque skirt was specially inspiring.

Gina from High on Fashion.

If I could choose any sweater I wanted, it would be these nine (yes, ONLY nine).

Top, left to right: Mulberry, Burberry Prorsum, Jason Wu. / Center: Carven, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel/ Bottom: Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch, Lanvin. Everything from net-a-porter

My (Ultra) Hipster Weekend

I spent this past weekend in my beloved Mexico City. It was great, I saw friends and family and did things I usually don't. But it was a very, very hipster weekend.

You know, you go to Brooklyn and see them, and there were tons in Savannah because SCAD is an art school. But I've never seen so many in one place: hipster dogs, hipster babies, hipster everything... Seriously, where do they come from?! OK, it's not like ther's tons of them, it's just that they are very, very hipsterish.

The thing is, I went to a The XX concert and this kind of market where local designers sell their clothes and accesories. And I do love going to those kinds of things... I was just really surprised.

The concert was amazing. And fashion-wise it was super amusing. I've never seen so many top-knots! OK, ok! I  was wearing a top-knot. Spiked booties were also present... Of course, there were sooo many girls wearing heels thinking they were at a fashion show or something. But in general leggings and skinny jeans (that's what I wore) were the norm.

Zara Jeweled T*Shirt + Vintage Gucci Bag
The XX, amazing!
On Saturday, at the Lonja Mercantil, I saw even more heel-wearing girls. And more top-knots and wayfarers and aviators. There were many pretty girls with short hair, but most had loooong, 'unkempt' hair. But what I found more interesting was what the guys were wearing... I wish I had taken my camera with me, because they were so many cool looking boys with oxfords, booties, cool shirts and sunglasses.

What I wore (by my friend Jaime).

...And pretty rings.

After thinking we had a hipster overdose with all the iPhones and mezcal, my cousin and I decided to go get a drink. We were walking towards Alvaro Obregón (the street with all these restaurants and bars) and found my idea of heaven: a deserted vintage store called Vintage Hoe. I know, I know, it is very hipster to buy vintage but I can't help myself. The thing is, it's super exciting to finally find a store that's cheap and doesn't smell. The dressing room is super small and funny, but who cares when you can find unique clothes at great prices. And the guy who works there is super sweet. I'm clearly in love with this place.

And tons of pretty vintage!

In general, it was an amazing weekend... And I can't wait to move to Mexico City and be a unwilling hipster.

H&M is finally here! OK, almost.

Remember how excited I was last week about ASOS shipping everywhere? Well, today I'm super excited beacause the H&M Mexico website is now online! This means the store is coming, so soon... I am so excited for my future shopping!

The only bad thing, it's in a mall, Santa Fé, a place super far away, and I hate it. Anyway, I'm already planning a trip and what I'm planning on buying. Since this fall is all about creature sweaters (I already ordered this one from ASOS), I want this bat one so baaaad:

Then I want these booties to wear with dresses, skirts and colored tights:

And last, but not least in my (so far) short list, pretty printed pants:

Of course, as soon as I enter the store my lists fade and I'll end up spending more money than planned, but that's the fun in shopping!

Stripes Two Ways

I don't usually do outfit posts because I don't photograph well... Especially since I have to take my own pictures.

So I just do them when I really, really like my outfits. Weirdly, I like my outfits best when they're super simple... Just like my mom, I love striped t-shirts and now I'm loving mixing them with printed shoes.

The first outfit was for a Monday afternoon writing session with my boss at La Revista, where I'm blogging. I like to be comfortable when writing because I have to sit for a loooong time. And since I don't have a car when I'm in Mexico City, I don't wear heels.

I wore this second outfit to go drink margaritas with my friend Cecilia... Since it was a super warm day I decided to wear floral printed wedges with the striped shirt and boyfriend jeans. Also an orange-y lipstick.

gap t-shirt/ae jeans/urban outfitters shoes/vintage bag
I don't know when I'll do another outfit post again, I don't always love what I wear... So the only thing you can expect from me is more randomness.

My (not so good) FNO Experience

Last week I was super excited for Fashion's Night Out Mexico. Last year I was in Savannah and I followed the whole thing on Twitter, Mexico and New York, so knowing that this year I was going to be able to go was so exciting for me.

And then, well, I did go. And I was kind of dissapointed.

The place was packed... it was crazy. I couldn't see any of the stores I wanted to and some people were dressed as if it was Halloween. There was not enough free booze to endure the event, and I couldn't even take good pictures!

So... What to do?

Luckily, one of my friends is the manager of Mario Hernández, a shoe and bags company, and he had champaigne, snacks, and celebrities. I went in there with him and some other friends and stayed there admiring the circus a local celebrity can cause.

Next year I'll follow it on Twitter again, way more fun! And this is what I wore: black, pink + leopard.

Happy Birthday Uncle Karl!

Today, to celebrate Karl Lagerfeld's birthday, one of my favorite quotes by him. Although, as a writer, I would love to do it for him!

No necesito escribirlas". Ojalá yo pudiera hacerlo por él.

What I Want Today: Little Miss Stella

Today, while eating a delicious chicken soup and feeling sorry for myself, I was reading my September issue of Bazaar... And I came across something super awesome (note that I hate the word awesome): Little Miss Stella by Stella McCartney.
lms
I seriously wish I could wear all these!

When I was little I looooved these little stories that I had at my grandma's... I just wish I was small enough to fit. No, I wish she made them for grown ups with really little price tags.

Acceptance: Courtesy of ASOS

Denial, anger, depression, bargaining, and acceptance are the stages a person goes through after an important loss. It may sound dramatic, but after moving back to Mexico I was extremely sad about the lack of online shopping I was about to experience.

And then I found out that ASOS has free, yes FREE, shipping everywhere and was super relieved. Yes, it takes FOREVER and I hate that... But that's just a small price to pay when I can get everything I want delivered to my country.

And now that accpetance has come to me, here are the fall trends I'm planning on getting through this amazing online store.

Baroque
Excess was everything at Dolce & Gabbana. Balmain and Lanvin also presented oppulence for fall.
ASOS shorts

ASOS headband.
Leather
For Fall/Winter, everything leather is in: dresses, pants, hats, EVERYTHING. My favorites on the runway were Acne and Isabel Marant, I will try to recreate their looks with this skirt.

ASOS Premium skirt.
Peplum (Yes, still)
It seems like peplums aren't going anywhere yet, but I couldn't find the ideal one for me. Until now. This one with a cat print represents the naïf chic esthetic I love so much.

Influence peplum top.
Now I just need to keep working in order to afford these items!
