Fashion is/as art (part 3).

Me.

It's been a month since I came back from my (most-fashionable-ever) trip to NYC. I've been too busy trying to adapt to what I call my "in-between-life". But I must not abandon my blog... Especially since it's one of the few things keeping me sane.

So, to continue with my art/fashion series I write today about the Fashion, A-Z: Highlights from the Collection of the Museum at FIT, Part Two exhibition I had the chance to see. Unfortunately, there were no pictures allowed. Which really is a shame because not only the garments were beautiful, but the way they were set up was too.

Both are Valentino, but my favorite is the white dress with mini black flowers and ribbon.

Since I couldn't see the McQueen exhibition last year, this was amazing. Specially because this was my favorite collection of his, Plato's Atlantis.

If you happen to be in NYC before November 10 and like fashion, you should definitely check it out. It's really beautiful. But if you can't, you can always visit the FIT's online museum here, it's pretty cool too... Enjoy!

CHANEL's LBJ

At the entrance to the exhibition... I was so excited I wanted to cry.

Sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time. Going to NYC on a post-grad vacation, I was not expecting to see a CHANEL exhibition. So it was a huge surprise for me, while on Twitter, that I would be able to see the exhibition accompanying the book "The Little Black Jacket". And I was really, really lucky... Because it was a one-week-only exhibition.

The show is incredible, really small, but incredible. I'm a huge fan of Coco and Uncle Karl, so this was really breathtaking. The girls working at the gallery wore beautiful CHANEL clothes and shoes, and they were super nice. The best part? You get to take a huge poster home. Vanessa Paradis shot in b&w by Karl Lagerfeld will be hanging in my future room.
 

 I'm not a fan of Yoko Ono, but these pictures are incredibly cool.

Catbird (Gatopájaro)

I’m not a huge fan of jewelry. At least not real jewelry. Maybe because I’m always broke. Of course, I’m in love with the Cartier “juste un clou” bracelet, but again, I’m always broke. That bracelet is one of the few pieces of jewelry I really covet. That and probably everything from Catbird. 

Last summer, on my trip to NYC I visited the quirky store in Williamsburg for the first time and fell completely in love. Of course, the only thing I bought was a card but I was in the tiny (but beautiful) space for a good half hour looking at everything. From rings and necklaces to soaps and every single card.

I was very attracted to the store because of its name. A while ago, I spent countless nights trying to sleep while a weird cat cried outside my bedroom window. I called him/her "Gatopájaro" (birdcat in Spanish) because of the strange noises he/she made. And then I found the store. I guess it was fate.

Now, on to the important stuff: what to get. Well, if I ever get married, it has to be with this ring. Ever since I saw it in the store I knew it was the one (ha!). It is the perfect mix of vintage and new, so it’s perfect for me. I love that is not the exact same ring everyone gets and it looks like an heirloom without seeming outdated. I love it! (Note that I said "if I ever..." I don't see it happening anytime soon, first I have to rule the fashion magazine world.)

I can’t wait to visit again this summer! And since this time I’m going with my parents, maybe I’ll get something more than a card, like the stuff below. But that perfect ring? It’ll have to wait.

And, mom, maybe you can get this for yourself so we can share it?

Maybe I'll get this wishing bracelets for my friends. And then keep them all for myself.

 And these three rings, mommy pleeeeeease? All three, because they don't make sense by themselves.

It is such a beautiful and inspiring place that if I ever follow my dream of having a store (more on that later), this one will definitely be one of my inspirations.

Cults! (best of 2011)

My third favorite thing in the world is music, just after fashion and TV. I love to listen to music that makes me feel happy and most important, I love bands with girls who choose pretty outfits to perform. And that is one of the reasons I looooove Cults and I want to see them live again (for the third time).

The band was formed last year by Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion in New York City. They have three other members who play live with them and they make beautiful music, she has a really sweet voice. Also, I love the dress she's wearing in the picture above and everything she wears.

The first time I saw them live was in NYC in August, when I hadn't even heard of them. I was there mainly to see Friendly Fires, but Cults was incredible. And I loved the little coral dress Madeline Follin was wearing, and I fell in love with her singing.

The second time I saw them, now with a longer set, was at the Austin City Limits music festival. By then I was already obsessed and knew all the lyrics by heart. My favorite part was her looking so sweet and pretty while singing "I could never heal myself, never heal myself... So fuck you."

I am definitely planning on seeing them live again in March, either in Orlando or Atlanta. And I hope they play sometime in Mexico, I'd like to see how they perform with a better audience ;) . 26!

In one month exactly, I will be 26. And I couldn't be more excited. Sure, it's closer to 30 than 25, but 25 was great so I can't wait to see what this new year has for me.

25 started crazy, with my birthday party ending in fights with boyfriends and friends. But I still had fun at said party. And all year after it. It's like when people say, "the worse the wedding, the better the marriage." Or something like that. I guess it's true because I traveled a lot and was really happy in general.

This year, however, I'm not having a big party. I just want to have a nice dinner with the people I'm closest too. And I'm giving myself the gift of going to New York. Same as I did when I turned 21. Or something like that. I'm also going to Austin City Limits in September and probably Orlando in November.

So I'm planning to enjoy 26 a lot, because next year I'll be graduating from my MFA at SCAD and I will finally have to be a grown up.
