Catbird (Gatopájaro)

I’m not a huge fan of jewelry. At least not real jewelry. Maybe because I’m always broke. Of course, I’m in love with the Cartier “juste un clou” bracelet, but again, I’m always broke. That bracelet is one of the few pieces of jewelry I really covet. That and probably everything from Catbird

Last summer, on my trip to NYC I visited the quirky store in Williamsburg for the first time and fell completely in love. Of course, the only thing I bought was a card but I was in the tiny (but beautiful) space for a good half hour looking at everything. From rings and necklaces to soaps and every single card.

Vintage looking jewelry.

I was very attracted to the store because of its name. A while ago, I spent countless nights trying to sleep while a weird cat cried outside my bedroom window. I called him/her "Gatopájaro" (birdcat in Spanish) because of the strange noises he/she made. And then I found the store. I guess it was fate.

Sorry, I had to (you can find more creepy images of catbirds here, it's really funny).
Now, on to the important stuff: what to get. Well, if I ever get married, it has to be with this ring. Ever since I saw it in the store I knew it was the one (ha!). It is the perfect mix of vintage and new, so it’s perfect for me. I love that is not the exact same ring everyone gets and it looks like an heirloom without seeming outdated. I love it! (Note that I said "if I ever..." I don't see it happening anytime soon, first I have to rule the fashion magazine world.)

The most perfect engagement ring EVER.

I can’t wait to visit again this summer! And since this time I’m going with my parents, maybe I’ll get something more than a card, like the stuff below. But that perfect ring? It’ll have to wait.

Mom, can you get me this?

And, mom, maybe you can get this for yourself so we can share it?

Maybe I'll get this wishing bracelets for my friends. And then keep them all for myself.

And these three rings, mommy pleeeeeease? All three, because they don't make sense by themselves.

It is such a beautiful and inspiring place that if I ever follow my dream of having a store (more on that later), this one will definitely be one of my inspirations.

I took Milu to see Pulp.

Of course you were expecting this post. I've been talking about the Pulp concert in Mexico City for what seems like forever. So here it is: it was THE BEST CONCERT EVER. My mom told me I always say the same, but this time I mean it. It was perfect. At times I cried, I danced like crazy and I sang every single song. And as promised, here's what Jarvis, Candida and I wore. I'd like to write more but it was too amazing for words.

Jarvis looked amazing, as always, in a slim suit.

Candida wore a beautiful embroidered dress, it shimmered whenever the light hit the
sequined flowers. Beautiful.

I wore my Milu t-shirt from the Jason Wu for Target collection and a vintage Gucci red bag that was my mom's. Here I am before the concert with my friend Barbara.

Creatures+Music+Vintage

Since this weekend I should be enjoying Coachella but I'm not, I decided to do another musical post. As always, it needs to have a fashion element and since I love boy and girl bands with retro looks, this post is about Metronomy. Metronomy is a band I don't know how I found. Like almost every "indie-hipster-alternative" band I know. They come, as expected, from the UK and have released three albums. And, surprise, they're playing at Coachella too.

The concert poster for their Mexico City show last October. Of course, I missed it. I took it from here.

Recently I came across the video for my favorite song of theirs: The Look. And guess what I found... A three guys, one girl band wearing retro looks and some birds. Birds riding go-carts. As you know, I love creatures so I thought this video was amazing and just perfect for the song.

The Look birds.

The girl, who plays the drums, is Anna Prior. In the video she's wearing a red dress (I'm pretty sure it's vintage) with a Peter Pan collar. I even found a blog post on how to recreate the look of  The Look. You know, there's just something really cool about a girl playing in a band wearing vintage.

Anna Prior playing. I love her bangs and hair color.

They played in Mexico City last year but I was in Savannah, so I missed it. But Metronomy will be openning for Coldplay (yes, I love Coldplay) in their 2012 North American tour so maybe I'll get to see them both before moving back to Mexico. Meanwhile, enjoy the video!

When I grow up I want to be... Pamela Ocampo.

Remember I wrote a post about wanting to be Garance Doré earlier? There I wrote that she won a CFDA Award with her Sartorialist boyfriend. In the post about the award she mentions former winners and she cites them as inspiration for her own career. That inspired me to write about my own inspirations. She of course is one, but there are some other people I want to be (like).

This, and the other pictures of Pamela Ocampo, were taken from a great interview with
her by CoolHunterMx.

One of them is Pamela Ocampo. The name may not be very well know to you, but she is a fashion editor at Elle Mexico. You know, from previous posts, that I would love to work there after I graduate from my masters (less than two months now!). And she is one of the reasons I want to work at that particular magazine.

I like her articles on the magazine, her posts for the Elle Mexico in Quien magazine's blog and, of course, her tweets. And that she is very nice. Very, very nice.

This is the February 2012 cover, styled by her. Image taken from

One of her Twitter avatars. Doesn't she look super nice?

She studied the same thing I did at the same college (Comunicación at the Tec de Monterrey), and was obsessed with magazines when she was little. She also loves doing yoga and blogging. Just like me! Yay! I'm really a fan of hers.

She loves green tea and yoga.

And... We are finally meeting next weekend after being "twitter friends" for a while... I can't wait! I have so many questions to ask her regarding my thesis and the magazine world. I'm really excited! I'll let you know how that goes!

*Most of her tweets are in Spanish, and so is her blog on Quien magazine, but I had to link to it!

Floral Pants Battle

H&M pants.

I love getting clothes in the mail, it’s very exciting to come home after a looooong day of thesis writing and see a package. Anyway, I wanted the H&M floral pants above, I guess I thought to be a good fashion blogger I needed them since many, many bloggers I follow are wearing them.

A Lacey Perspective, EatSleepWear, Soul of My Shoes, Style Blog.

And also because they were $14 dollars. I sent my cousin to H&M in Orlando, since we don’t have one in Savannah (please H&M people we need one!!!), but of course they were sold out. And you know H&M doesn't have any e-commerce, so what does this have to do with getting a package?

Well, instead of the H&M pants (you really thought I was just another blogger wearing those pants, right?), I got this pair from ASOS and I have to say I love them even more than my original pick. Why? Because not everyone is wearing them, or the blazer, dress, etc. with that print. And, of course, because they are pink!

And I can’t wait to wear them... Maybe today, since the weather is crazy in Savannah and I can finally get a chance to wear pants and stop the mosquitos from bitting me. Aren't you jealous it's already summer in here?

When I grow up I want to be... Garance Doré.

One of my favorite bloggers of the moment is Garance Doré (@garancedore). She started her blog, where she uploaded her beautiful illustrations, in 2006. Then she started adding text, in a very cute, kind of funny way. (I guess that’s the way to make a good blog, writing about what you like in your own style… Not just having ads and posting outfits). Then she started taking pictures and fell in love with The Sartorialist. She is exactly the kind of blogger/writer I want to be.

Garance Doré at some Fashion Week.
In her “about” section of her website she writes:

“That’s how it became quite clear to me that fashion was my dearest subject. I like how often it changes its mind and in it, you can see the passing of time. I like that it’s as beautiful on movie stars as it is on the street because everything is only how you look at it.”

I really like her beautiful illustrations. This one's illustrating Prada.

Her love for fashion is one of the reasons I love her. But not the only one, here are my five top reasons she's my favorite at the moment:
  • She seems like the nicest person in the (fashion) world.
  • She has the cutest French accent when speaking English. We both have an accent! Something in common...
  • She’s dating, like I said before, the Sartorialist’s Scott Schumann. And together they won the CFDA Eugenia Sheppard Media Award
  • She’s very casual in her writing tone, I like to think we write in a similar way. (Something else in common).
  • She writes super cute “hand-written” notes over her pictures.

With Scott Schumann, The Sartorialist. I love that they're wearing
matching shoes!

Clearly I'm in love with the woman. And I was completely obsessed with her “Pardon my French” video series about Paris Fashion Week. I thinkink watching them was the moment I fell in love with her personality. She’s one of the people I want to be when I grow up.

This is episode 2 of the Pardon My French series, "Fashion & Technology".
It's my favorite, I hope you like it too.

What I want today: Equipment shirts.

For a while now I've been using more shirts and less t-shirts... This has lead me to a new obsession: Equipment shirts. Of course, it's an obsession that I can't afford.

According to my-wardrobe.com the brand was originally launched by Christian Restoin in 1975. And then relaunched in 2010 by Serge Azria, becoming an instant hit. But with prices over two hundred dollars I have to conform with finding something similar. But these shirts are definitely on my list of the things I'll buy when I'm a well paid fashion editor at some magazine. Some day.

These are my favorites at the moment. Of course there's classic white, some pink and pretty prints.

Equipment Signature Blouse at ShopBop. I love how the shirt looks with leather
shorts. I wish I had both.

Hibiscus Silk Signature Shirt at My Wardrobe.

Equipment Signature Cabbage Rose Print Blouse at ShopBop. This one's on sale!

Equipment Slim Fit Two Pocket Star Print Shirt at Asos.

So again, if anyone is interested in giving me a graduation gift (less than two months away!) you have an other option on what to get me.
